DIGITAL SHOWCASE.

A GLIMPSE OF LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE:

IN THE HALL, ON THE FIELD, AND OVER THE MOUNTAINS

This page provides an interactive showcase of a portion of my work while completing my MAEd from Michigan State University. I chose a wide variety of media to help highlight both the breadth of the curriculum of the MAEd program while also capturing my multi-dimensional life in leadership and service.

Each artifact, organized under three distinct categories, displays my life of leadership and service in the halls of Lee Middle and High School, on the field as the Quarterback Coach at Hope College, and over the mountains as volunteer Young Life Leader for Lee High School. These experiences in the hall, on the field, and over the mountains help capture a portion of my MAEd work as well as my life in leadership and service.

IN THE HALL.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AT LEE HIGH SCHOOL

The adjacent video project highlights the work a teacher in our school developed through utilizing a Kagan Cooperative Learning strategy. Kagan remains an integral teaching strategy at Lee which we encourage and train our staff to utilize in the classroom. Additionally, this project encouraged collaboration between myself and the District Tech Team. This collaboration allowed me to complete a much more sophisticated project than I am capable on my own.

INVESTIGATION ON INSTITUTIONAL LEADERSHIP

This assignment encouraged us to compare two major institutions with at least one major difference in structure and operation. I compared my 'day job' at Lee High School to that of my evenings and weekends spent coaching football at Hope College. The process opened my eyes to some of the fundamental differences in structure and operation of the two institutions, and this process of interviewing and researching each institution allowed me to learn why these differences may have developed. At the request of a portion of those interviewed, the assignment will remain accessible to only those associated with the course. The link on the right leads to a slide show of photos from both Lee Middle and High School and Hope College.

INFLUENTIAL DATA AT LEE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL

This project called on me to develop and communicate data within an existing role or employer which can be used to indicate improvement or success. Click on the image to the right to access a cover page of data for Lee High School from 2010-2013. This project, much like many of the others from this program, proved to be useful within my role with Lee High School.

STUDENT VOICE AT LEE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL

This video project encouraged me to engage student voice. This video interview is a very candid look at life at Lee High School through the eyes of Lee students. The process of creating this video allowed me to learn from our students by providing them the time and platform to use their voice. This video was also shown at a statewide conference highlighting student involvement.

SCHOOL CULTURE AT LEE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL

This project called on my inner-NPR narrative skills by asking me to develop a compilation of interviews on a school related topic. My project highlights the four plus years of work spent in developing the Lee Culture and Climate Team. This team, as the audio interview suggests, plays a crucial role in development at Lee, and shares the focus of improving the "overall student experience" for students and staff at Lee.

ON THE FIELD.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL STRENGTH PROGRAM

This project aimed to incorporate the knowledge on strength and performance training as it pertained to my position as an assistant college football coach at Hope College. The photo to the right, when clicked, will open a document created specifically for student athletes participating in and training for college football. This assignment was built in conjunction with the below nutrition program, as a part of an inclusive program development project.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL NUTRITION PROGRAM

This project aimed to incorporate the knowledge on nutrition as it pertained to an athlete's performance and health to my specific job as an assistant college football coach at Hope College. The photo to the right, when clicked on, will open a document created specifically for student athletes participating in and training for college football. This assignment helped put into practice much of what I learned during the semester.

OVER THE MOUNTAINS.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT HIGHLIGHT

This video project allowed me to highlight an experience I had over the previous summer by calling upon my experience in youth program development. This video is a compilation of a summer backpacking trip I co-lead to Grand Teton National Park in Jackson, Wyoming. The trip, sponsored by Young Life, encouraged students to focus on their relationship with Jesus Christ as well as their relationships back home, all while participating in a 30-mile cross-country adventure.
